As a summer staff member, you'll help create a safe, joyful, and inclusive camp experience for children and families impacted by cancer or sickle cell anemia. You'll laugh a lot, grow a ton, and walk away with memories and friendships that stick with you long after summer ends!

What You'll Actually Be Doing! Your Role at Summer Camp:

As a Summer Staff member, your main responsibilities consist of many behind the scenes set-up/clean-up and preparation tasks, along with facilitating activities, and maintaining our recreational property. You are NOT Camp Counselors; we have weekly volunteers who fill that role. Some essential job functions include, but are not limited to

  • Working alongside 15-20 summer staff members to create and implement weekly program activities  

  • Assist in overall camp maintenance and operations (set-up/clean-up, meal service support, washing dishes, cleaning and disinfecting cabins and program spaces, and more!) 

  • You may be assigned to a specific program area while still being required to participate in general tasks as well. These areas include; arts & crafts, sports & games, music & drama, nature & science, archery, kitchen support, photography, fishing, and lifeguarding.  

  • Participate  enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning, and leading those as assigned 

  • You will be trained in First Aid, CPR, and AED (free of charge to you). Lifeguard certification and training will be provided, free of charge, if you are interested in pursuing that role.  

This job is incredibly rewarding but can be very demanding both physically and emotionally. Days can be long, energy is high, and flexibility is essential! It's not always easy, but it is always meaningful.

  • Are introverted or extraverted - there is a role for everyone! 

  • Looking to gain leadership and work experience  

  • Can withstand some physical requirements including; prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking long distances, being outside in the heat/rain, daily exposure to the sun, willing to live in a camp setting, and willing to work irregular hours 

  • can move/lift equipment and supplies that are anywhere from 10-50 pounds. 

  • Have fun wearing costumes; especially costumes that fit our theme for the summer!  

  • Are open to immersing yourself in the camp traditions including, learn the camp songs, and skits too. 

  • Want to grow your network and be a part of a community that quickly starts to feel like family. 

 

THE DETAILS

Employment Dates

  • Mandatory Training Dates: June 15-19, June 22-26, June 29-July 2 

  • Program 1: July 5-10 

  • Program 2: July 12-17 

  • Program 3: July 22-30 

  • Program 4:August 2-7 

  • Program 5: August 9-14  

  • Note: There are some weekend programs that require a small staff to facilitate; if accepted for the summer staff position, those dates will be discussed as an optional work weekend for you to choose. 

Compensation (Stipend range below):  

  • Training Weeks: $350 - $400

  • Program Weeks: $350 - $450 

  • Weekend Programs: $100 - $125

  • Additional $25 per week added to anyone who fulfills a lifeguarding position 

Age Requirement:  

  • 18 years or older 

  • Highly qualified candidates age 17 may be considered at the discretion of the hiring team 

Housing & Meals: 

  • Shared housing, laundry amenities, and meals are provided to you during training and program weeks.  Staff are required to leave camp property, if they are not working a program. Exceptions may be made only with prior approval from the Camp Director/Executive Director. 

  • You will need reliable transportation to and from our recreational facility in Branchport, NY for when you must leave property. Public transportation and ride shares are not available to our recreational facility.

  • Once all the above is completed in full, a virtual interview with the hiring team will be scheduled
  • Offer letter is extended *Offers are pending the completed of a cleared background check and the participation in a group interview on May 30th at our recreational facility
