Mendon, NY ~ The 15th Annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competition will be held on Saturday and Sunday, March 21 - 22, 2015, at the Rochester Plaza Hotel, with the 15th Annual Wine Auction Dinner to follow on Saturday, May 2, 2015, also at the Rochester Plaza Hotel.
All proceeds from the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition and Auction Dinner benefit the children and families served by Camp Good Days and Special Times.
The Finger Lakes International Wine Competition has become one of the largest wine competitions in the world to benefit a charitable organization. To date: 3,688 wines, from 922 wineries, representing 48 states, 26 countries, and 6 Canadian Provinces have been entered.
All of the wine entries will be evaluated on Saturday & Sunday, March 21 & 22, 2015 at the Rochester Plaza Hotel by a world-renowned panel of 72 judges representing distributors, educators, enologists, sommeliers, restaurateurs, winemakers and writers. These diversified experts came from all over the United States and around the world. Throughout the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, each wine is judged on its own merit - its presence, balance and varietal character. Wines are blind judged and all wines are presented to the judges in Riedel crystal stemware. Medals are awarded for the unanimous Double Gold, Gold, Silver and Bronze winning wines and all award winning wines will be featured on www.fliwc.com.
In addition to the medals, the JOHN ROSE AWARD, named for John Rose, who worked at Heron Hill Winery, was a strong supporter of Camp Good Days, and lost his battle to cancer, will be presented for the Best in Class Riesling and the CRYSTAL GRAPE AWARD will be presented for the Best in Class Icewine. Best-In-Class trophies will also be awarded for the following categories: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cab Franc, Fruit Wine and Late Harvest Riesling, along with their Double-Gold medals.
The medal winning wines will be featured at the 15th Annual Camp Good Days' Wine Auction Dinner on Saturday, May 2, 2015. The Wine Auction Dinner also includes an elegant dinner, and a multitude of silent and live auction items. Camp Good Days, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life threatening challenges, was founded by Gary Mervis in 1979, following the diagnosis of his youngest daughter, Teddi, with a malignant brain tumor.
