PROGRAM and VOLUNTEER MANAGER

Description

Camp Good Days is seeking a full-time, year-round Program and Volunteer Manager to join our summer camp leadership team to help further our mission to improve the quality of life for children and families impacted by cancer or sickle cell anemia through summer camping and year-round programming. The Program Manager will reside at our recreational facility in Branchport, NY on Keuka Lake in the Finger Lakes Region during summer staff training, summer camp sessions, and weekend programs, as laid out by the summer schedule. Their primary role will be to oversee our volunteers and implement program activities. The Program Manager will report to the headquarters office in Mendon, NY when summer/weekend programs are not in session, as part of the program team to maintain volunteer relations and assist with year-round programs. This includes participating in special events to maintain a pipeline of new volunteers from associated colleges and community groups.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Recruitment, Processing, and Training of the following categories of volunteers:
    • Camp Counselors (Summer and Rochester year-round and day camp)
    • Counselors-in-Training
    • Program Instructor Volunteers
  • Maintenance of volunteer application, health forms, waivers, and database
  • Perform necessary reference checks, background checks, and provide confirmation of hours as needed.
  • Work with Program and Camp Directors to ensure proper NYS, ACA, and COCA (Children’s Oncology Camping Association) compliance regarding Camp Counselor training.
  • Implementation of Counselor-in-Training program for summer camp sessions
  • Assist with year-round events, as needed.

Key Summer Duties

  • Welcome and orient volunteers weekly.
  • Work closely with the Camp and Medical Directors to ensure head counselors and counselors are informed of all necessary precautions and additional needs for Campers under their care.
  • Work closely with Assistant Camp Director to ensure program area support needs are met.
  • Implement program schedule of activities, under the direction of the Family & Programs Director. Program activities tasks will be shared in rotation with the Assistant Camp Director. Be present at full camp activities and meals during assigned sessions.
  • Address volunteer needs and provide feedback as needed.
  • Help facilitate Rochester day camp.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree
  • Experience working at a summer camp or with volunteer teams is preferred.
  • Proficiency in developing and leading a team of volunteers.
  • Certification requirements: must be able to obtain and become certified in CPR/First Aid, AED
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must understand the demands and rigor of residential camping programs
  • Must be able to reside on-site when needed following the summer and weekend programs schedule.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
