VOLUNTEER MANAGER

Description

Camp Good Days is seeking a full-time, year-round Volunteer Manager to join our summer camp leadership team to help further our mission to improve the quality of life for children and families impacted by cancer or sickle cell anemia through summer camping and year-round programming. The Volunteer Manager will reside at our recreational facility in Branchport, NY and will oversee our volunteer teams for the summer camp season (June-August). Outside of the summer months (September-May), the Volunteer Manager will report to the headquarters office in Mendon, NY, to maintain volunteer relations and focus on recruitment, onboarding, and training of volunteers. The Volunteer Manager will also assist with special events to maintain a pipeline of new volunteers from associated colleges and community groups.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Scheduling and supervising of the following categories of volunteers
    • Camp Counselors (Summer and Rochester year-round and day camp)
    • Counselors-in-Training
    • Program Instructor Volunteers
    • Volunteer Groups
    • Fundraiser Event Volunteers
  • Recruitment, Processing and Training of Volunteers
  • Maintenance of volunteer application, health forms, waivers, and database
  • Perform necessary reference checks, background checks, and provide confirmation of hours as needed
  • Facilitate training for all volunteers working directly with our participants
  • Work with Program and Camp Directors to ensure proper NYS, ACA, and COCA (Children’s Oncology Camping Association) compliance regarding Camp Counselor training
  • Schedule volunteers for upcoming events and programs and maintain ongoing communication
  • Plan and facilitate volunteer groups for in-office and facility needs. Work closely with office staff and/or Facility Director to prepare for volunteer group visits.
  • Develop and manage Counselor-in-Training program for summer camp sessions
  • Research volunteer recruitment, training and retention to expand upon volunteer program
  • Assist with year-round events as needed

Key Summer Duties

  • Welcome and orient volunteers weekly
  • Work closely with the Camp and Medical Directors to ensure head counselors and counselors are informed of all necessary precautions and additional needs for Campers under their care.
  • Conduct daily head counselor meetings
  • Implementation of Counselor-in-Training program
  • Be point of contact for all volunteers during programs
  • Work closely with Assistant Camp Director to ensure program area support needs are met
  • Be present at full camp activities and meals during assigned sessions. Lead program activities in rotation with the Assistant Camp Director.
  • Address volunteer needs and provide feedback as needed
  • Help facilitate Rochester day camp

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and experience working at a summer camp or with volunteer teams
  • Proficiency in developing and leading a team of volunteers
  • Certification requirements: must be able to obtain and become certified in CPR/First Aid, AED
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Docs
  • Consistent, self-directed, well-organized, flexible, personable and able to maintain composure in a changing environment
  • Knowledge of ACA guidelines is a plus
  • Must be able to work long days
  • Demonstrate physical stamina and agility required to be mobile for long periods through the day
  • Stand for long periods of time and be able to run and actively engage physically with children
  • Must be able to live on-site June-August
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
