ASSISTANT CAMP DIRECTOR

Camp Good Days is seeking a full-time, year-round Assistant Camp Director to join our leadership team to help further our mission to improve the quality of life for children and families impacted by cancer or sickle cell anemia through summer camping and year-round programming.  During the summer months ( late-June through mid-August), the Assistant Camp Director will reside at our recreational facility to manage summer and aquatics staff. Outside of the summer months (September-May), the Assistant Camp Director will report to the Headquarters office in Mendon, NY, to prepare and manage the summer staff hiring process and assist in facilitation of year-round programs. The Assistant Camp Director reports to the Camp Director.

Essential Functions

  • The Assistant Camp Director manages all seasonal overnight summer staff including program staff and lifeguards. The incumbent will work closely with the Camp Director to complete the hiring process
  • Recruitment of summer camp staff
  • Facilitate a two-week summer staff training prior to the start of the summer camping season. Development of training will be completed with the Program and Camp Directors.
  • Train and supervise all summer staff to achieve the highest quality camp experience for our participants
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain current knowledge of best practices in camp management and working with our Camp’s population.
  • Maintenance of summer staff manual
  • Assist Camp Director with creating and executing of Rochester year-round camper events
  • Assist with camper outreach, as assigned by the Camp Director
  • Assist with year-round events, as needed

Key Summer Duties

  • Manage weekly staff schedules and daily assignments
  • Run end-of-day meeting with summer staff
  • Conduct regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings with all summer staff
  • Address staff needs and provide feedback/correction, as needed

Be present at full camp activities and meals during assigned sessions. Lead program activities in rotation with the Volunteer Manager.

  • Work closely with Volunteer Manager to ensure program area support needs are met
  • Process Summer Staff timecards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and experience working at a summer camp
  • Proficiency in developing and leading a team of staff
  • Previous experience interviewing, hiring, and supervising staff
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Docs
  • Consistent, self-directed, well-organized, flexible, personable and able to maintain composure in a changing environment
  • Knowledge of ACA guidelines is a plus
  • License and certification in aquatics is a plus
  • Must be able to obtain and become certified in CPR/First Aid, AED
  • Must be able to work long days
  • Demonstrate physical stamina and agility required to be mobile for long periods through the day
  • Stand for long periods of time and be able to run and actively engage physically with children
  • Must be able to live on-site June-August
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
