Finger Lakes International Wine Competition
Camp Good Days Wine Auction Dinner
This Event Is Sold Out
The Finger Lakes International Wine Competition
and Camp Good Days Wine Auction Dinner
have jointly become the largest fundraiser for the programs of Camp Good Days and Special Times. The brainchild of businessman and Camp Good Days board member Peter Parts, the competition grew from 800 entries in 2001, to over 3470 by 2013, making the Finger Lakes International one of the largest wine competitions in North America. In 2010, the competition reached a milestone in earning the distinction of being the only competition to receive entries from all 50 states in the union!
Every March, Rochester, NY becomes the focal point of the wine industry as judges from around the globe
arrive for the two day competition. Rather than the wines being judged against each other, the judging is double blind, where the judges do not see the brand of wine or where it came from, and judge it based on a standard. A few categories such as Riesling, Ice Wine, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, have the top wines in each category judged a second time by a select judging panel to determine a "Best Of" wine. More information about this event can be found at the official competition web site, www.fliwc.com
A month after the competition, Camp Good Days and Special Times holds it's annual Wine Auction Dinner, which for the past several years has been a sold out event. The dinner showcases one of the largest silent wine auctions in the Northeast. Guests are treated to a special prepared dinner menu along with the opportunity to sample many of the medal winning wines from the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. The highlight of the evening is where guests have the opportunity to bid on many "Oh Wow" live auction items. Past items have included a stay at a private villa in Argentina's Mendoza wine region, guided trips through Napa, rare wines, hand crafted wine tables built from wine barrels, and much more.
All of the proceeds from the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition and Camp Good Days Wine Auction Dinner allow Camp Good Days and Special Times to provide their programs free of charge to children and their families who are battling cancer and other life challenges. Persons who are interested in attending, the Wine Auction Dinner, becoming a sponsor, or volunteering at the events are urged to call 585-624-5555
